Our Story
Wairua Pūhou was formed in 1987 with students from both Otago Boys’ and Otago Girls’ High Schools to empower our rakatahi in being strong, confident and successful young men and women.
Alva Kapa named our roopū. She was instrumental in setting up the prestigious Mana Pounamu Awards for Māori students who excelled in their pursuits, in and around Otago. This year is our Te Hautoka 2025 campaign and we are working very hard to be successful.
We are young, we are proud, we are a myriad of all things, we are Wairua Pūhou.
Here is a link to our calendar and practice schedule. Practices on Wednesdays are from 3:20pm until 5:00pm and weekend practices are from 10:00am until 3:00pm. Some weekends we operate on both Saturday and Sunday, and others just on one of those days. Students are expected to do sporting or whanau commitments before Wairua Pūhou trainings but to make what they can.

Kōmiti whanau
The Kōmiti Whanau is a roopu of parents wanting to help and contribute to the wellbeing and success of all Māori akonga at Otago Girls'. Fundraising and supporting Wairua Pūhou is not the main priority, but the group certainly appreciates the time and effort they put into the group, supporting success across the board.
